What is the second type conditional?
It is a structure that
we use to talk about about
unreal situations in the present or in the future. |

| As you have noticed, we use were instead of was...Whatever the subject, the verb form is "were", not "was". This represents a slight but important change in the use of the simple past. EXAMPLE: If I were rich, I'd buy a castle. |

Como habrás notado, utilizamos 'were' en vez de 'was'...Cualquiera que sea el sujeto, la forma del verbo será 'was' en vez de 'were'. Esto representa una sutil pero importante diferencia en el uso del pasado simple. EJEMPLO: Si fuera rico, compraría un castillo. |
| STRUCTURE OF THE 2º CONDITIONAL: As we mentioned in lessons seven and eight, a conditional sentence is made up of two parts: a main clause, and the if clause. We use different verb forms in each part of a second conditional sentence. Remember that you can change the order of the clauses. |

ESTRUCTURA DE LA ORACIÓN CONDICIONAL DE 2º GRADO: Como mencionamos en las lecciónes siete y ocho, la oración condicional está compuesta de dos partes: una cláusula principal y una oración con if . Utilizamos diferentes formas verbales en cada parte de la oración condicional de segundo grado. Recuerda que puedes cambiar el orden de las oraciones. |

| TO REMEMBER: If you start the sentence with if, you will have to put a comma in the first part of the sentence. BUT if you start the sentence using the main part of the sentence at the beginning, no comma is used. |

PARA RECORDAR: Si comienzas la oración con if (si), deberás colocar una coma en la primera parte de la oración. PERO si comienzas la oración utilizando la parte principal de la oración no deberás utilizar la coma. |

| One more thing : The difference between if I become and if I became, or if I win and If I won is not a differnce of time. The use of the present form makes the situation more real, whereas the use of the past form makes the situation less probable, or imaginary, or impossible. |

Una cosa más: La diferencia entre si yo llego y si yo llegara, o si yo gano y si yo ganara no es una diferencia temporal. El uso del la forma presente hace a la situación más real, mientras que el uso de la forma pasada hace a la situación menos probable, o imaginaria, o imposible. |
