   Poder: introducción a los verbos auxiliares modales

 

  Uses: If you say that you can do something, you mean you have the ability to do it, or you have the knowledge or skill to do it. There are of course other uses of can which will be explained later.
 

AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES
   Subject + can  infinitive of verb  object      
 I can speak Japanese
you can sew  
he can play    
she can cook    
it can      
we can      
they can      


Note: Can has the same form for all the pronouns. It is invariable.

 I can play rugby...What about you?

 

 Usos: Si usted dice que puede hacer algo, quiere decir que tiene la habilidad,  posee el conocimiento o la pericia para hacer algo. Hay además otros usos de can que se explicarán más adelante.

2  Wh questions with can

To make wh questions follow this structure: 

 
  Wh word + verb can +subject    inf of verb? 
         
  What can he do?
  How many languages can she speak?
  What sports can you play?
