     What is  / are.. xx...like?          
                             

    		 

    What is / are...xx...like?¿cómo es? ¿cómo son?
     

    		  

       We usethe structure what is....xx...like? or what are....xx...like? to ask for a description. This structure is purely idiomatic and it can be used in the singular or in the plural.

    		  

     

    Usamos la estructura What is...xx ...like?   (¿Como es?) o  What are...xx...like?  ( ¿Como son ? )  para preguntar por la descripción de algo. Esta es una estructura puramente idiomática y puede usarse tanto para el singular como para el plural.
      You can use the structure to talk about the  weather,  people, coutries, objects, animals etc...and in that to ask for a description of them        Puedes usar la estructura para hablar del tiempo, personas, países, objetos, animales etc...y así preguntar por una descripción de ellos.

    Here you have some examples in the singular:

    		    

    Aquí tienes algunos ejemplos en singular:
    Examples: with the weather  Ejemplos: con el tiempo
    What is the weather like today?   ¿Cómo está el tiempo hoy?
    It is cold, hot, windy, snowy, sunny, etc   Está frío, cálido, ventoso, nevoso, soleado etc.
    It is a hot day. It is a cold day...It is a windy and sunny day etc.   Es un día cálido. Es un día frío...Es un día ventoso y soleado etc.
    Examples : with countries or cities            Con países o ciudades
       What is San Marino like?       San Marino is a very small country     ¿Cómo es San Marino?

      What is Misiones like?

       What is New York like?   New York is very cosmopolitan.     ¿Cómo es Nueva York?  Nueva York es muy cosmopolita
           
    Examples: with people (singular)           Con personas   (singular)
    What is Tina like?    She is funny, she is studious...She is very kind   ¿Cómo es Tina?  Ella es divertida, estudiosa...Es muy amable.
    What is Medusa like?   She is ugly...unsociable   ¿Cómo es Medusa?  Es fea...poco sociable.
           
    Examples: with objects           Con objetos: (singular)
    What is her new dress like? It is long, blue...it is expensive...It looks   ¿Cómo es su nuevo vestido? Es largo, azul...es caro...luce....
    What is his new computer like?  It is modern and fast...   ¿Cómo es su nueva computadora?  Es moderna y rápida.
    What is that new book like?  It is very interesting and exciting..It tells the story of a...     ¿Cómo es ese nuevo libro?  Es muy interesante y emocionante...Cuenta la historia de un...
           
    Examples: with animals:        Con animales
    What is your parrot like?  It is very funny...talkactive. The other day....     ¿Cómo es tu loro?  Es muy gracioso...parlanchín...El otro día....

      

           

     

           

    We can use the structure in the plural  too:

    What are Ottawa and Montreal like?   Very cold... ¿Cómo son Otawa y Montreal?  Muy frías...
    What are the Italian like? They are passionate, extroverted...   ¿Cómo son los italianos? Son apasionados, extrovertidos
    What are Mr and Mrs Green like?  They are sociable and very kind   ¿Cómo son el señor y la señora Green?  Son sociables y muy amables
    What are your new socks like?  Very comfortable and warm...   ¿Cómo son tus nuevas medias?  Son muy cómodas y cálidas...
    What are those books like?  They are boring...They are all about grammar!   ¿Cómo son esos libros?  Son todos aburridos. Son todos de gramática.
    What are penguins like?   They are sociable. They are funny. ¿Cómo son los caballos?    Son sociables. Son graciosos.
